Science Ignition Day

In Week 2, Room 8 started a science experiment that was called "The Mouldy Bread Experiment". We learnt first of all how to write a scientific piece of writing. First we had to think of our title, then we had to come up with a question and then we made a hypothesis.
Our title - The Mouldy Bread Experiment
Our question - Which liquid makes white bread go moldy first?
Hypothesis - We had to pick which liquid we thought would make the bread go moldy first. Our choices were from the list below:
Our Resources/Materials:
White bread
Coke zero, orange juice, water, light milk, soy sauce and cooking oil
Plastic bags
Staples
Measuring cup
The Method:
Measure 1/4 of a cup of each of the liquids and pour them separately onto each slice of bread. Place each piece of bread into its own bag and seal with staples. Label the bag with liquid and place on notice board to observe over the next two weeks.
Observations:
Day 1 - No change to any of the pieces of bread
Day 2 - A little spot of mould on the piece of bread that had water on it
Day 3 - The bread with the water now has a big patch of mould, nothing on the other breads
Day 4 - Coke zero, light milk and orange juice bread now have spots of mould on them
Day 5 - The cooking oil bread now has a couple of mould spots
Day 6 - There is lots of mould spots on all pieces of bread but on the coke zero bread there is big red spots that look like jam! Don't try to eat it though... eeewwww.
Day 7 - Massive big splotches of mould. The mould is all of these colors: red, green, black, white, brown, yellow, pink and purple. There is a horrible smell coming from the bags now. It may be time to end this experiment soon!
The last step for us is to write our results. This experiment has been lots of fun to watch.
We now need to look at the reasons behind why some of the liquids did not make the bread mould a lot... it should be interesting.
