Persuasive Writing

Room 8 all had to write to persuade an audience of why they should be given pocket money... they had to focus on using rhetorical questions, being able to back up their ideas with evidence. Below are some examples of some of them... Enjoy

‘Why I should get pocket money‘           By Calix
To get pocket money I could do jobs. Jobs like doing dishes, or mowing my lawns and other jobs.
Another reason is to help other people at their jobs. Their job might be a cleaning job (not so easy) or concreting (even harder!).
A further reason is to help a family member move house. I could unpack some things or move boxes to earn money.
So I hope I have persuaded you why you should give me lots of pocket money!

“Listen up parents, do you have too much money stuffed in YOUR pockets”? Well I’ve got the cure for you. If you give me pocket money, it will keep your pockets empty and mine full.
It all adds up in life. Pocket money is all about being paid for the work you complete, which will help me learn to save money so when I’m older I am more responsible with my money.
It doesn’t matter how much money I’m given. Maybe just $5 a week for different jobs or a variety of amounts depending on the type of job. (Example - vacuuming $2, depending on the area) etc. While I’m doing the chores you will be able to chill out, relax and enjoy some peace and quiet.
If I have my own money I won’t be pestering you for toys, electronics, food, trips to places, or books. You will be left alone (for a little while at least!)
I’ll donate money to local charity. I’ll also do jobs for free, it will make such a difference in the world.
Education is probably the most important reason why I need pocket money. I would buy text books or maybe even an ipad if I need to.
In conclusion I hope I have persuaded you to give me all your money!!!

‘Why I should get pocket money‘             By Brooke
“Do you see my empty pockets, with no bling bling in them?”. Well I’m going to persuade you why I should have pocket money.
Firstly I need to learn how to save so I can plan ahead for my future. I will look after each and everyone of my friends and to learn how to be a responsible person.
Secondly I will learn to be more generous with my money by helping friends and family to buy presents, food or clothes.
Finally I’m going to work really hard for my pocket money by doing chores like doing dishes, helping family and friends and washing the car.
Thank you for listening to me. I hope I persuaded you of why I should have pocket money!

'Eggsperiment' time...

Here we have a simple egg... or so it seems....
Charlotte chose this science experiment to prove that you can't crush an egg when you squeeze it. So we all gave it a shot... The faces that were pulled during this experiment were priceless! Afterwards we found out the reason why you can't crush the egg: - 'If you apply even pressure throughout the egg while squeezing it the egg will withstand the force. However if it is overloaded on one side with pressure it will break. That is eggsellent... get it?! Okay that was pretty silly. It was cool to watch everyone try and break the egg though.

Science - Making Gloop

We decided to make gloop in Room 8 - 'boy did we make some mess' (luckily we decided to do this out on the field). We invited Room 5 to join in with us, seeing as it was such a beautiful sunny day and a nice way to end the week. We were a little disappointed as our gloop didn't turn out exactly how it should have and was a little runny. Next time we would add less water and use more cornflour. It is amazing how the gloop can turn from a solid to a liquid. We are adding the recipe if any of our parents would like to try this recipe out at home.

GLOOP:

Ingredients
2 cups cornflour
1 cup cold water
Instructions
Pour the cornflour into a bowl. Add the cold water slowly, stirring constantly and stop when the water is barely absorbed by the cornflour.
The resulting solution is fascinating to play with. It can be scooped up with the fingers as a mouldable material, but flows like liquid back into the bowl. It will brush off clothing as a dry powder.

I have included some photos of the process in making the gloop:

Field of Dreams Swimming - Week 1

Last Friday Room 8 went to the Sykes Road pools for our first swimming lesson with the field of dreams instructors. It was lots of fun. First we were chosen to go into one of three groups and then we were shown a few new skills and played a few games. Below are some photos of our fun while there...
